December on the Yampa
2011 December 27 by MTurner
December 10th was a particularly fine day. I realized that since the skiing was not really that great, it was barely above freezing, there was snow on the ground, a little ice had built along the edges of the river, there I was, standing in the river fishing. But best of all, I had netted 6 fish in an hour and a half, four of which barely fit in my net with a 22 inch long basket!
Winter Fishing on the Yampa

Bruce’s persistence paid off with a nice winter Cutthroat on the Yampa. The weather was actually very nice and made for some great fishing conditions.
Shocking News!
2011 October 26 by BCarta
Last week I had the opportunity to volunteer with the Division of Wildlife doing a fish count on the Yampa River through the Service (or as some people refer to call it Sarvice) Creek area. The fish population was very healthy and I was told by some there were a lot more and bigger fish than last year when they did this. As you can see from the photos the White Fish, Brown and Rainbow were a size that most anglers would be proud to hook into. So get out there and get your line wet as the fishing this fall on the Yampa has been something special. And with this nice weather you better take advantage because once winter sets in it might be a while before you’re out on the river again. If you are interested in getting involved and volunteering with the DOW or our club, please give us a shout and we’ll see if we can get you hooked up!

Yampa Through Town, July 11, 2011

The river was high, but the fishing was good on July 11, 2011, right downtown on the Yampa. I parked my car across from Steamboat Flyfisher, put on my waders, walked less than ten feet, and caught a small brown and a nice rainbow on a stone fly nymph.
Pearl Lake

Michael T and I made a few casts at Pearl Lake. Caught a couple nice cuts. Steamboat Lake and the inlets were very muddy, but we got word that the fishing at the dam was good. Hopefully the river calms down soon.
Spring Fly Fishing
2011 March 26 by SWarner
Spring fishing is picking up. Been fishing the downtown stretch of the Yampa along with the Treehaus Bend section. This fat rainbow was taken on a slightly overcast afternoon in the Chuck Lewis section on March 21 on a “Nuclear egg.” Also getting action on pink San Juan Worm’s, Dorsey’s mercury midge and mercury RS2′s.
